Passport & Visa Requirement Checker

Choose the passport you will travel on and your destination. The result keeps the ordinary-passport rule separate from any exception created by a valid visa or residence permit from another country.

Exact document type matters. A temporary permit is not a permanent residence card, and a new single-entry visa may fail a rule that requires prior use or multiple entry.
Current visas

Entry count, prior use, visa class and remaining validity can change the result.

Residence permits

Temporary residence, permanent residence and an EU-family card are legally different documents.

GCC residence permits

GCC routes often require pre-approval, a qualifying occupation and a minimum period of remaining validity.

Qualifying document history

Use these only where the rule expressly accepts a previous or recently expired document.

Other qualifying travel documents

These documents apply only where the destination expressly names them.

Choose a passport and destination

You will see the baseline entry rule first, followed by any reviewed document exception that matches your selection.

Use this for planning, not boarding clearance. Recheck passport validity, trip purpose, transit airports and the exact document with the destination authority and your airline before paying for a non-refundable ticket.

Two answers that should never be mixed

The first answer assumes an ordinary passport and a short visit without relying on a document from another country. The second layer activates only after you select a visa or residence permit and only where a reviewed official rule matches it.

This distinction prevents a common and costly mistake: describing Mexico as “visa-free” for an entire nationality when the waiver actually depends on a valid US, Canadian, Japanese, UK or Schengen visa.

  1. 01
    Baseline matrix

39,402 passport-to-destination combinations in seven exclusive entry categories. Twenty-two passport rows are replaced by VisaAdvisor's deeper official-source review.

  2. 02
    Document rules

131 reviewed rules across 111 destinations cover third-country visas, permanent residence, EU-family cards and GCC residence routes.

  3. 03
    Final operational check

Airlines use itinerary-specific information. Transit, passport validity, document use history and the purpose of travel can still change the boarding answer.

Plain-language definitions

What each category means

Visa-free

No destination visa application is required for the published short visit. Entry conditions and border discretion still apply.

Visa on arrival

The visa is issued at an eligible port of entry. A fee, documents or prior registration may still be required.

eVisa

An electronic visa application must be approved before departure. An application receipt is not an issued visa.

ETA

An electronic travel authorization is required before travel even though a consular visa is not.

Visa required

A destination visa or formal pre-approval is normally required before the traveler reaches the border.

Conditional

The route depends on a material condition that does not fit safely into a simpler category. Open the cited rule before booking.

Restricted

General admission is suspended or narrowly limited. This is not presented as an available tourist route.

Before you rely on the result

Does a valid US or Schengen visa always replace a destination visa?

No. Each destination defines its own accepted document types, entry count, prior-use and validity conditions. The checker only shows a result where Visa Advisor has reviewed a published rule.

Does no matching document rule mean there is no exception?

No. It means this reviewed layer has no matching published rule. Confirm the itinerary with the destination authority and the airline before booking.

Is an eVisa the same as visa-free entry?

No. An eVisa or ETA requires a successful application before travel, while visa-free entry does not require a destination visa application.

Why can two passport websites show different totals?

Indexes differ in their territory list and in whether they combine visa-free, visa on arrival, eVisa and ETA into one score. This checker keeps those categories separate and excludes travel to the passport's own country.
